In order to study of the spatial dependence of the pairing gap in the inner crust of neutron stars one has to take into account the coexistence of the neutron sea with the nuclear clusters which from the Coulomb lattice. The calculations recently performed by several groups will be reviewed, indicating the need to make further progress, including effects beyond mean field.
