Description
In this lecture we discuss the conical intersection (CI) and its importance to chemistry. First, I will go through the basis of the definition of a CI and spell out some of it's properties. Second, I will give examples from photochemistry and ground state chemistry in which CI are fundamental components of the understanding of radiationless decay, uv-stability and chemiluminescence. Third, we will discuss the various computational tools that are to our disposal to investigate the CI.
