Description
Fluctuation dynamos could be important in generating the first magnetic fields in galaxies and also maintaining the fields in galaxy clusters. Mean field dynamos would be important in explaining the fields on scales larger than the scale of the forcing. An issue which is often debated is whether the generated fields are coherent enough to explain the observations. This talk focuses on this issue and discusses various lines of evidence which suggests that these dynamos can indeed produce coherent enough fields. Further, the issue of how to explain magnetic spiral arms seen in several disk galaxies is also addressed.
