Integrable systems play an important role in physics. They give us a clue on strongly coupled phenomena in quantum field theory and statistical mechanics, inaccessible by other means. Applications of integrability in gauge theories and string theory has lead to important developments in holographic duality, a remarkable relationship between strongly-coupled gauge theories and string theory on curved space. The most prominent example of the holographic duality is the AdS/CFT correspondence, an equivalence of N=4 sypersymmetric Yang-Mills theory to string theory on the AdS5xS5 background. This system turned out to be completely integrable, and this has led to the a number of non-perturbative results for the spectrum, scattering amplitudes, Wilson loops and correlation functions.
The school is aimed at graduate students working in string theory, gauge-gravity duality and integrable systems, and will cover applications of holographic duality and integrability in condensed matter physics, introduction to conformal field theory and modern methods to calculate scattering amplitudes, as well as various aspects of integrability in the AdS/CFT correspondence, such as the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz, integrability for scattering amplitudes and Wilson loops. The school is organized by the ITN network GATIS (Gauge Theory as an Integrable System).
