Description

Intermediate redshift analogs to the sources of cosmic reionization

Many independent and complementary studies of reionization have provided impressive constraints on, e.g., its progress with redshift and multi-wavelength observations continue to improve our knowledge of the luminosity function of potential sources of ionizing photons. Yet, it remains uncertain which specific class(es) of object are the source to the ionizing UV background at high redshift, as most analogs appear to be dark below the Lyman Break. I’ll discuss some personal efforts to search for Lyman Continuum leaking from galaxies at z ~< 3. If time allows, I’ll discuss ongoing efforts to assess the warm(er) metal content of halos in low-redshift star forming galaxies.
