DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Petri Väisänen (South African Astronomical Observa
tory)\n\nSALT is a 10-m class optical telescope in South Africa\, it is th
e\npremier facility for optical/nir astronomy on the continent. It is on\
nits 6th year or science operations\, and has seen strong increase in\nsci
ence output making it perhaps the world's most cost-effective large\nteles
cope. I will give a brief description of the project with recent\nupdate
 s\, highlights\, and plans for future direction. I will then\ndescribe m
y own work using SALT together with other telescopes\,\ninvolving star-for
ming galaxies and LIRGs\, and galaxy-wide winds\naffecting the evolution o
f these systems. I will discuss a recently\nstudied case of a likely trip
 le galaxy merger in particular.\n\nhttps://indico.fysik.su.se/event/6300/
