DESCRIPTION:The PDC Center for High Performance Computing and the KTH Scho
ol of Electrical Engineering and Computer\n Science (EECS) welcome you t
o our summer school introductory course on high-performance computing. Thi
s course is part of the Swedish e-Science Education. \n\n\n Interested stu
dents and researchers (with academic or industrial backgrounds) from all o
ver the world are invited to apply to attend the course\, which will be he
ld at the KTH main campus in Stockholm during late August. (Please note th
at for KTH Masters students\, the summer school is available as course num
ber DD2358.)\n\n\n This course provides the skills needed to utilize high
-performance computing (HPC) resources\, and includes an introduction to a
range of important topics\, such as:\n\nHPC programming languages\, libra
 ries and tools\, \nmodern computer architectures\, \nparallel algorithms\,
and \noptimizing serial and parallel programs. \n\nCase studies in variou
s scientific disciplines will be used to help illustrate these topics. The
course consists of both lectures and guided hands-on lab sessions. Partic
ipants who successfully complete the course (including the associated prog
ramming project) will be awarded 7.5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Ac
cumulation System) points. \n\n The course is suitable for researchers an
d graduate students who are interested in high-performance computing. Appl
icants must be able to communicate in English\, and have previous programm
ing experience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe PDC Summer School receives considerable
funding from SeSE\, the Swedish\ne-Science Education. The two leading e-Sc
ience centres in Sweden\, SeRC\n(www.e-science.se) and eSSENCE (http://ess
enceofescience.se) have taken the\ninitiative to establish a graduate scho
ol\, SeSE\, to fund\, develop and offer\nbasic training in fields where th
e use of e-Science is emerging and where\neducation can have an immense im
pact on the research\, but also to provide advanced\ntraining for students
in fields that are already computer-intensive. The\nschool is open to all
graduate students in Sweden\, and is built upon the\nprevious successful
schools NGSSC and KCSE. SeSE will be a meeting place for\ngraduate studen
ts using e-Science tools and techniques.\n\n\n\n\n\n2019 will be the 23rd
year that the course has been held – participants will become part of th
e long tradition of the PDC Summer School\, which you can read about in th
e course pages for all the previous years.\n\n Please note that there are
a limited number of places available in the summer school\, so be sure to
register early! Course registration opens on April 8\, and closes on May
 31\, 2019.\n\nhttps://indico.fysik.su.se/event/6743/
