Recently, the notion of symmetry has been vastly generalised, coming to include what are known as categorical, or non-invertible symmetries. In this talk, I will present a general framework to study gapped phases and phase transitions of 2d theories in the presence of such symmetries. This outlines a generalised, or categorical, version of the well known Landau paradigm for second order phase transitions. I will also show how we can use this paradigm to make progress on the longstanding question of finding a conformal field theory with the exotic Haagerup symmetry.
