DESCRIPTION:Nuclear astrophysics is a fascinating discipline which aims to
explain – quantitatively andqualitatively – the observed abundance of
elements in the cosmos. Current nucleosynthesis modelsindicate that light
elements until the iron peak are produced through progressive stellar bur
ning\,while those beyond are mainly generated by neutron capture processes
. The correspondingnetwork models are sensitive to atomic/nuclear properti
es of the isotopes and the underlyingastrophysical conditions. Since nucle
osynthesis primarily occurs in stars which are high energydensity plasmas\
, it is necessary to factor in the effect of the plasma on these data for
accuratereconstruction of elemental abundances. The PANDORA facility\, curr
ently under realisation at INFN-LNS\, aims to investigate theseproperties
inside a laboratory magnetoplasma emulating the stellar interior. While th
e primarygoal of the facility is to measure β-decay rates of isotopes in
a hot plasma\, the density andtemperature achievable also make it a prospe
ctive testbench to measure cross sections of atomicreactions such as colli
sional ionisation\, excitation and recombination. In this seminar\, I will
provide an overview of the physics and technology behind PANDORA. In parti
cular\, I will discussthe properties of the plasma\, the interplay between
nuclear and atomic data\, and the plasma kineticsimulations we have devel
oped to model observables connected to the variation of decay rates andato
mic reaction cross sections. The experimental data from the facility will
serve as useful inputsin s-process nucleosynthesis models\, and for spectr
al reconstruction of kilonovae in the nebularphase.\n\nhttps://indico.fysi
