DESCRIPTION:Water vapor in the air needs a surface to condense onto to for
m cloud droplets. Aerosols provide these surfaces\, causing polluted cloud
s to contain more droplets. This\, in turn\, affects other physical proces
ses in the cloud. A hypothesis called "convective invigoration" posits tha
t by providing more particles for condensation\, aerosols create smaller\,
more numerous droplets\, delaying rain and releasing additional latent he
at at higher altitudes\, which increases convective updraft speeds. In thi
s session of News and Views\, Casey Wall\, Assistant professor at MISU\, w
ill present a theory which predicts convective invigoration from basic phy
 sics. \n\nhttps://indico.fysik.su.se/event/9645/
