DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Superpositions of macroscopically distinct coherent
states\, or cat states\, are a key resource for quantum technologies. In p
articular\, two-mode binomial cat states can give rise to exact quantum er
ror correction in continuous-variable quantum computing. However\, their p
reparation typically requires non-Gaussian initial states\, such as Fock o
r NOON states\, which are challenging to realize experimentally. In this t
alk\, we propose a protocol to generate two-mode binomial cat states where
the only requirements are Gaussian initial states in combination with her
alded heterodyne measurements. Our approach utilizes cross-Kerr interactio
ns between bosonic modes commonly realizable in superconducting circuit ar
chitectures. We show that by adjusting the input state parameters\, our pr
otocol remains robust to dissipation under realistic experimental conditio
ns. Our work provides a practical route to realizing multinomial cat state
s in current experimental platforms without requiring non-Gaussian initial
resources\, overcoming a key limitation of existing preparation schemes.
The talk is structured as follows. We first introduce the concept of cat s
tate\, and then discuss the protocol in a closed system. Next\, we talk ab
out the impact of noise\, and end the talk with a brief mentioning on the
possible extension to a broader class of cat states.\n\nhttps://indico.fys
