Description

I will revisit the Caldeira-Leggett model of quantum Brownian motion with Ohmic spectral density, and derive an additional contribution to the decoherence kernel in a new high-temperature limit. I will show that it leads to a Markovian master equation guaranteed to be in Lindblad form, closing a point left open in part of the literature cf. Breuer & Petruccione (2007). I will also discuss the behavior of the decoherence kernel at both the initial and final times of a process of finite duration, and the related kernel of a fluctuating Gaussian force.

The talk is based on joint work with Graeme Pleasance and Francesco Petruccione, available as arXiv:2508.14262
