Measuring small angle elastic scattering in a new energy domain with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC.

Description
The ATLAS experiment at the LHC is mainly designed to measure high pt processes. However, ATLAS will also be equipped with detectors that will allow some low pt reactions to be measured. The interest of low pt reactions will be discussed with a focus on small angle elastic scattering and the total cross section. The difficulty with those measurements at the LHC, the measurement method and the associated detectors will be described.
