Description
In 2004 the European Commission announced an initiative for Design Studies for Future Facilities. More than 22 institutions joined their efforts to advance the understanding of e+e- linear colliders at the energy frontier. The motivation for the EUROTeV proposal and the subsequent EUROTeV project was to study the physics challenges for high luminosity e+e- colliders independently of the acceleration technology. The initiative spurred the establishment of such expertise in Europe at various universities and formed the foundation for the European contribution to the Reference Design Report for the ILC. It also led to the re-establishment of accelerator science as an academic discipline in several universities. The talk will give a brief account of these development and then concentrate on the key achievements of the collaboration that make us confident to propose an e+e- Linear Collider that surpasses the performance characteristics of the SLC by several orders of magnitude.
