Loops and Strings - Introduction to String Theory II
In this second part of the general introduction to string theory we will focus more on post-second string revolution ideas like D-branes and dualities, and "string geometry" in general. Many of this will (unfortunately by necessity) be approached from a low energy effective perspective. Wherever useful/possible, analogies with similar concepts in gauge theory will be used to make ideas more clear. One of the main themes will therefore be the rich interplay between geometry and gauge theory which has become a major trademark for string theory. Given the limited amount of time, emphasis will be on concepts rather than technical details.
