Description
Following a brief survey of various image processing applications, the talk will focus on image processing used in image and video coding. Specific image transforms will be presented such as the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and the wavelet transform. Motion estimation is a very important part of modern video coding. It is related to "optical flow" which in turn is related to disparity in stereo images. Model-based video coding requires 3D interpretation of 2D images, a topic that will be touched upon in the context of coding and recognition of human faces.
