Description
The voltage dependence of the NMDA channel is not the same at all synapses and over development, but differs depending on e.g. subunit composition and phosphorylation state. To determine the influence of the shape of I-V curve of the NMDA channel on the excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) at a dendritic synapse, certain parameters of the I-V curve were varied. The type of differential negative slope conductance, the steepness of the negative slope and the amplitude as well as the voltage value of the maximum inward current were varied. The influence of this parameters on the amplitude of the EPSP was studied using a model of a layer-5 pyramidal cell. We find that the parameters change the NMDA-current dramatically (we report up to 8-fold changes), but do not have a big influence on the EPSP.
