Description
Increasingly rapid developments in the biomedical field, environmental sensing and security technologies over recent years led to realization and rediscovery of the mid and far infrared spectral regions, which is extremely useful for identification and characterizing different organic and inorganic molecular species.

The investments spurred by this increased interest has catalyzed rapid development of whole array of novel technologies for mid and far-infrared coherent light generation, including development of new laser materials, quantum cascade lasers and novel nonlinear optical materials.

In this talk I will briefly review the latest advances and status in this broad technological area and will in a rather broad scope, touch upon different applications. Our efforts and capabilities at KTH will be presented as well. So people interested in collaborative and cross-disciplinary research areas are very welcome to attend the presentation and join the following discussion.
