Description
The Stockholm-Uppsala FEL-center is working on the design of a THz free-electron laser based on superconducting technology. We aim for a highly flexible light source capable of generating THz pulses of either broad or narrow bandwidth, with picosecond duration and with a rep-rate of up to 176 MHz. In addition X-ray pulses will be provided which presents a unique opportunity for time resolved pump(THz) – probe(X-ray, THz) studies. This versatile multicolor photon source may be used to address a diverse range of scientific topics in physics, chemistry and bio medicine. In this talk I will present the preliminary design of the THz free-electron laser and discuss suitable scientific applications.
