Description
I will give an overview of our recent work on the surface composition of aqueous solutions using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) on a liquid micro-jet. After a short outline of the basic principles of XPS and practical implementation, I will present results of two projects that are motivated by biochemistry and atmospheric science to illustrate the strength of this experimental technique. The experimental results, which are supported by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, reveal information on surface composition and speciation on the molecular scale. I will also briefly introduce our new setup for aerosol generation and show first spectra from a study on sodium iodide aerosol particles under dry and wet conditions.
