Description
The dye-sensitized solar cell is an example of a molecular system where the function of the overall device is better than predicted from the sum of the properties of its components. An understanding of the complex interactions at the interfaces is particularly challenging. Many of these systems contain transition metal complexes; we use electronic structure methods and molecular dynamics simulations together with x-ray spectroscopy experiments to study the building blocks of the dye-sensitized solar cell.
