Description

With the APEX (Atacama Pathfinder EXperiment) telescope already in operation, and with the ALMA (Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array) well underway, on Llano Chajnantor in the Chilean Andes, Swedish scientists are well equipped for new exciting astronomical discoveries. I will review the status of APEX, and present some of the astronomical highlights made with this 12m telescope. I will also review the status of the commissioning of the 66-element radio interferometer ALMA, and describe some of the science drivers behind its design.
