The Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope

Building large solar telescopes pose special challenges. We explain why such telescopes are built and describe the concept, design and construction of the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST). We explain what adaptive optics is and how this is implemented at the SST. F inally, we describe briefly also other instrumentation that will be installed at this telescope during the coming year.
