Description

In the new research group for Cell Physics at the dept. of Physics, KTH, confocal microscopy is one of the more important measurement techniques in use. We develop methods and techniques based on confocal microscopy for studies of physical and biological properties of living cells.

Since the early development of confocal microscopy during the 1980’s many techniques based on confocal imaging have evolved. I will in this seminar discuss some of those techniques and their use in biomedical studies. In parallel to the development of applications of confocal microscopy, the technique itself has gone through a strong development. I will discuss some of the more important developments in scanning, excitation and detection techniques. Finally a new scanning technique for arbitrary 3-dimensional scanning that is currently being implementedwill be presented.
