Advances in Electron Microscopy

by Prof. Stefan Csillag (Fysikum)

Description

Modern transmission electron microscopes (TEM/STEM), when equipped with analytical attachments and field emission sources act like veritable nano-laboratories. Sub-nanometer scale spatial resolution (single atom imaging) and sub-eV energy resolution in the acquired spectra offer unique and previously never explored possibilities in a large variety of fields, from material science, condensed matter physics to biology and medicine. The development of fast and efficient detectors opens up the possibility of time resolved, chrono-spectroscopy. Some of the instruments and analytical methods will be presented along with some practical applications
