Description
Recent advances in understanding interacting (perturbative) quantum
fields in curved spacetime lay open the prospect for finally getting a
quantitative handle on quantum gravitational backreaction effects
during standard inflation. In this talk I will describe two
calculations that suggest second order fluctuations seem to
generically dominate in their effect on the gravitational field over
that of linear perturbations during inflation. Finally I will show
that similar nonlinear effects persist even in IR modifications of
cosmological gravity such as degravitation and DGP models, and can be
used to check a given notion of nonlinear self-consistency of such
theories.
