Description

The construction of the ATLAS experiment has been going on for more than a decade. This huge instrument, which is built as a 22 m diameter, 46 m long cylindrical combination of subdetectors with altogether about 150 million readout channels, is nearing its completion. More than 1700 physicists have been involved in the process. The subdetectors which have been developed at different geographical locations actually fit together and we are confident that ATLAS will be fully operational 2007. The present status of the detector and some difficulties found during the construction will be summarized. Quality control and coordination issues will be briefly discussed. An outlook of the commissioning and energy scale calibration will also be given
