Description
The chemical modeling of the kinetics of the cold ionized media, such as the early Universe, the interstellar media and planetary atmospheres, as well as edge fusion plasmas, shock waves at the hypersonic entry of space-crafts, surface-plasmas in Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), plasma-assisted flames relies on the full understanding of the relevant elementary processes. Electron/molecular-cation collisions and photon/neutral molecule collisions are of crucial importance.
I will review the main interactions and mechanisms governing these processes, successfully modelled by the Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory, and I will illustrate the role of the resonant captures into excited bound Rydberg states.
