Description
The aim of this research area is to gain insight into quantum systems on their natural time and lengths scales with focus on control and manipulation and possible future applications in, e.g., electronics or quantum information science. In the talk, I will discuss the central theme: interaction of matter with new light sources. I will describe the main observables. In the description of these, the time-dependent wave function (TDWF), often including multiple continua, plays a prominent role. I will mention ab initio approaches used towards an approximate representation of the TDWF. In the end of the talk, I will discuss some of the paradigms of the research area and the approximate models of the TDWF that led to them. This includes models of ionization and generation of light through the nonlinear process of high-order harmonic generation; introducing concepts that will repeatedly occur during this Nordita programme.
