Complex systems and Biological physics seminar [before December 2013]

Photonics, electronics and spintronics of biological systems

by Hans Ågren (Dept. of Theoretical Chemistry, KTH)

Description
In this talk I will describe some efforts in multiscale/multiphysics modeling of photonics, electronics and spintronics, with relevance to biotechnology. With "multiphysics modeling" we combine methods that have different physical content in order to obtain a more complete view of an applied problem. This can involve methods that bridge length and time scales; in length from atomistic to macroscopic levels; in time from femtosecond electron dynamics to slow processes perceived by humans. The combination can be obtained in terms of integrated algorithms or simply by piping datasets from one model to the other. I will also briefly discuss some ongoing activities at the department of theoretical chemistry, KTH, in nanoparticle technology, catalysis and protein interactions.
