I will review the recent attempts to embed the Standard
Model of
Particle Physics (and supersymmetric extensions thereof) in string
theory,
using D-branes. The gauge interactions and elementary fermions arise
as
different kinds of open strings stretched between the D-branes in the
configurations. I will discuss the main phenomenological properties of
such string models, and how close to the actual Standard Model they
get.
