Description
In this lecture I will give an introduction to the parts of quantum mechanics
which can be viewed as an extension of classical probability theory instead of
as a physical theory. This can be viewed as a parallel to the elation between
classical probability theory and statistical mechanics. I will also discuss
why, from a mathematical perspective, this is not just any extension of
probability but in many ways instead the most natural one.
