Compressed Exponential Decays in Correlation Experiments: About Complex Dynamics and Artefacts.

Recently, compressed exponential decays (CEDs) are encountered in an increasing number of correlation experiments in a variety of soft matter systems. While for some of these systems this decay can be understood quite readily as the effect of internal stresses, for some systems these findings still defy understanding. In the talk, after some general remarks on time autocorrelation functions, several examples will be given for experimental observation of CEDs, and some ideas are put forward to understand their origin. More recently it also turned out, that certain experimental conditions can produce CED behaviour artificially, and so finally it is discussed how both scenarios can be distinguished.
