Description

This seminar has been cancelled due to the new COVID19 restrictions announced on November 16.

The cavity method, or Belief Propagation, is a method to compute all the marginals of a probability distribution simultaneously in an efficient manner. The approach is exact on trees and can be numerically quite accurate on large locally tree-like graphs.

The cavity method has been extended to the quantum domain in several ways. I will review some of these. If time allows I will also discuss recent work to extend the dynamic cavity method to describe open quantum systems, with interactions as in locally tree-like graphs.
