Description
The coincident detection of neutral fragments of a parent molecular ion undergoing resonant charge exchange is at the core of this novel experimental approach. The internal energy content of diatomic products can be quantitatively measured with an efficiency that is compatible with beam-beam experiments, shedding light on the reaction mechanisms and possibly allowing for state-to-state cross section measurements. Processes ranging from multiphoton ionization and fragmentation to reactive atomic and molecular collisions have been successfully investigated, and the prospect of using this technique in future storage devices will be discussed.
