Description
We will discuss several problems involving light propagation and localization in periodic photonic structures. In particualr, we will draw an analogy between such systems and the corresponding systems in solids and atomic physics, revealing many effects such as Bloch oscillations and Zener tunneling, localized surface Tamm states, Fano effect and Fano-Feschbach resonances. Then, we will introduce several approaches for manipulating polychromatic light in integrated photonic structures, and demonstrate some recent experimental results obtained for periodically curved one- and two-dimensional waveguide arrays including the observation of broadband self-collimation and generation of polychromatic gap solitons. Finally, including singular optics, solitons, microwave physics, and tunable nonlinear materials.
