Description

How does  inertia control  stability and turbulence generated in swimmer suspensions? We will discuss this within the framework of active matter. In particular, we highlight a new  instability mechanism in suspensions of self-propelled particles that does not involve active stress.
Instead, it is driven by a subtle interplay of inertia, swimmer motility, and concentration fluctuations, through a crucial time lag between the
velocity and the concentration field.  I will also discuss some new results on emergence of clustering in nematode suspension.
