Description
This seminar will introduce and discuss the basic features of string theory
(mainly in its perturbative forms) with particular attention to the
fundamental concepts at the basis of the string formulation of quantum
gravity. In details: we will deal with quantization of matter and gravity,
building (scattering) observables, and the definition of the theory at the
perturbative level with some insights of non-perturbative formulations.
A second lecture scheduled for next week will delve more into the subject of
low energy effective theories as well as some non-perturbative aspects.
