Description
In this talk I review some of the aspects related to the magnetic field structure and evolution in NS. After reviewing some basic ideas about how we observe and measure magnetic fields in NSs, I discuss about its internal structure, the approximations made in the calculations, its range of validity, and possible ways to improve the existing works. I will give some emphasis to the magnetic field in the crust, where physics seems simpler and the problem is affordable, and the coupling between the thermal evolution and the magnetic field. In the final part, I discuss how to compare data with observations to test models and some possible methods to constrain the magnetic field distribution function of neutron stars with a population synthesis approach.
