Description
I will talk about Matrix inflation, an inflationary model strongly motivated from string theory. In this model, inflation is driven by three NxN hermitian matrices. One can show that it is possible to consistently restrict the classical dynamics to a sector in which these three matrices form the representation of SU(2). The effective inflaton can traverse super-Plankcian field distances during inflation. Also, the fine-tunings associated with unnaturally small couplings in the chaotic type inflationary scenarios are removed. Due to the matrix nature of the inflaton fields there are extra scalar fields in the dynamics. These have the observational effects such as production of iso-curvature perturbations on cosmic microwave background. Moreover, the existence of these extra scalars provides us with a natural preheating mechanism and exit from inflation. As the effective inflaton field can traverse super-Planckian distances in the field space, the model is capable of producing a considerable amount of gravity waves that can be probed by future CMB polarization experiments. I also discuss the landscape of the inflationary potential arises from Matrix Inflation. After discussing the classical landscape of the theory we study the possibility of transition among various inflationary models appearing at different points on the landscape, mapping the quantum landscape of Matrix inflation.
