Understanding the components of Solar Cells: A synergy between theory and experiment

Solar cells are key players in terms of their potential role in harvesting light and generation of energy, in wake of global energy crisis. In this talk, I will discuss our recent computational approach in the backdrop of XPS measurements by our experimental colleagues, for two key components of solar cells. In the first part, I will shed light on the solvent dependent structure of I-/I3- which is used as a redox couple in dye-sensitized solar cells. In the later part of my talk, I will focus on electronic structures of perovskite, which is a new-generation photo-voltic material used in highly efficient solid state solar cells.
