Description
At this extreme objects meeting (April 23) we will try to look at one topic from different angles. There have been recent claims of a possible "macronova" detection (http://arxiv.org/abs/1503.07761) in the aftermath of a GRB that does not really fit in the "standard picture" (GRB060614) We will therefore try to summary the "standard picture"/the "standard arguments", then see where things do not fit together and --in an ideal world-- we may come up with something that makes more sense. Therefore the plan is: I Summarize (each time ~10 minutes) ------------------ - Jesper: on GRB060614 - Stephan: standard arguments why short bursts are usually related to compact binary mergers - Ariel: summary of the recent observation (http://arxiv.org/abs/1503.07761) II Discussion ----------------- Try to identify inconsistencies, open issues etc. come up with "crazy" (or maybe not so crazy) ideas. Here everybody is encouraged to come up with ideas or simply questions. Maybe someone of your colleagues has a good answer... If you are interested in this type of topic and would want to read something about it, you may want to read: - the new "macronova": http://arxiv.org/abs/1503.07761 - connection between sGRBs and compact binary mergers: http://arxiv.org/abs/1501.02081 (and possibly references therein) - the "non-standard" GRB 060614: + http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0608257 + http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2006Natur.444.1044G + http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0608322 + http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0608313
