Description
A black hole moving through a slowly varying background can
be replaced by a point particle together with some effective
interactions with the background by using the (non-quantum)
effective field theory method. Some of the coefficients in
the so-defined effective black hole (BH) action are known,
and in particular 4d Schwarzschild black holes are known to
have no induced gravitational polarization at the linearized
response level. The BH effective action includes also
certain well-defined degrees of freedom whose physical
interpretation will be discussed.
