Description
In this talk, I present an intrinsic CFT construction of
local bulk operators in terms of cross cap boundary states.
I discuss how background independence and bulk locality
naturally emerge from conformal invariance and the conformal
bootstrap. I then describe what it means for one of these
bulk observables to cross a black hole horizon.
