Description
The scattering equations provide beautiful formulas for the tree-level scattering amplitudes of several theories of massless particles, including gauge theory and gravity. These formulas arise from worldsheet models of field theories, known as ambitwistor string theories. In this talk, I will show how the scattering equations extend to one loop. The idea is to apply a residue theorem to a worldsheet formula on the torus, transforming it into a tractable formula on the Riemann sphere. The new formalism allows us to obtain expressions for gravity and gauge theory amplitudes at one loop, with or without supersymmetry.
