Niels Bohr and the Nobel Prize

by Prof. Mats Larsson (Fysikum, Stockholms universitet)

Description

Niels Bohr was awarded the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physics. In this talk, the 1922 Prize will only serve as an introduction to the main topic: Niels Bohr as nominator.

Over the years he submitted 25 nominations, of which 22 for physics and 3 for chemistry. Was he successful, in other words, did he have the ear of the Nobel Committees? The answer must be yes, although there are a few notable exceptions.
