Description
Traditionally, there is a close analogy between condensed matter physics and particle physics, reflecting the fact that both fields deal with large scale effects of local quantum degrees of freedom. The analogy is the reason that emergent phenomena, which are ubiquitous in condensed matter physics, are also important in particle physics. The traditional analogy between the two subjects actually fails in the presence of gravity, but modern ``holographic'' insights suggest a cure.
