Emergence of Homochirality in Chemical Systems

by Kouichi Asakura (Keio University)

Europe/Stockholm
Description
A first kinetic model that shows the possibility of spontaneous generation of homochiral state was devised by Frank in 1953. Kodenpudi et al. formulated another model based on a concept that the biomolecular homochirality on earth is an example of dissipative structure, i.e. self-organization in far-from-equilibrium system. Many theoretical and experimental researches have been performed on chemical systems in which homochiral state is spontaneously generated in the last two decades. In this talk, our recent researches on the spontaneous generation of homochiorality are reviewed.
