LSST and Supernova Cosmology

Description
The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) is an upcoming optical sky survey with a ground based telescope which will scan the Southern sky repeatedly over a ten year period in six photometric bands in the wavelength range of 3200-1050 Angstrom with a field of view of 9.6 sq degrees at a single visit depth of r ~ 24.5 magnitudes, and a coadded depth of r ~ 27.5 magnitudes, along with smaller regions that are observed at a faster rate. A feature of these capabilities is that they will allow the survey to study faint, changing, and rare astrophysical sources. The survey is designed to study cosmology, the transient universe, the milky way and the solar system. I will discuss the current survey design from the perspective of supernova cosmology, and discuss current preparatory efforts relating to supernova cosmology.
