In this talk, I will review the concept of multipole moments from
electrostatics, and then give the corresponding
relativistic definition. In the relativistic setting, a number of questions
appear, and I will address some of these.
In particular, I will try to demonstrate the ideas behind some fairly recent
results and also give the status
of some on-going research.
